An exhibition at the David and Gladys Wright house, organized by the Taliesen West Residency Program for the fall 2017 artists in residence. Artists Mark Neufeld and myself both presented temporary installations derived from themes we had been exploring while at Taliesen West.
While at Taliesin I had been taking “field castings” of rocks and rock surfaces. I’ve also been attempting aerial photography with a weather balloon.
“Weather Balloon with Suspended Rock” is a spontaneous co-mingling of these activities. A large casting of rock surface is suspended by kite string from an 8′ white weather balloon. The weight inside the casting is just enough to keep the balloon from flying away but still allows one side to be uplifted from the ground.
